MULLINS WHEELS – ABOUT US

MULLINS WHEELS – ABOUT US

Merrington M. Mullins who founded Mullins Wheels back in 1905, began his career at the Lewis Cycle & Engineering Works in Adelaide, working as a Wheelwright. Like any genuine purveyor of quality products, Mullins has a heritage that has been earned over time, not made-up or imagined and that’s why they are leaders in the aftermarket alloy wheel market today.

WOODEN WHEELS

In the late 1800’s the first motor vehicles were fitted with wooden spoke wheels and narrow solid rubber or high pressure tyres. These wheels were found to have limitations when travelling over the rough, unmade, often sandy roads prevalent at the time. Merrington M. WIRE WHEELS

In 1897 whilst working for Lewis Cycle & Motor Works, Merrington M Mullins manufactured wire wheels for the first petrol driven motor car built in South Australia.

ALLOY WHEELS

The 1970s saw the birth of the ‘mag wheel’ manufacturing industry in Australia, and prior to opening its own foundry, Mullins Wheels purchased raw castings for their Triden and Hotwire wheels from Cheviot wheels, which were then finished in-house. Both wheels proved very popular with Falcon and HQ Holden owners.
